Abstract

Potamogeton crispus Linnaeus (1753:126), Fig. 8 Perennial, growing aseasonally, rhizome slender, stem slender, compressed, bicanaliculate. Leaves monomorphic; submersed leaves 20–100 mm long, 4–18 mm wide, margins serrate, undulate, rounded at apex, cuneate at base, 3(–5)- veined; stipules not fused, 6–7 mm long, membranaceous. Spike 10–15 mm long, peduncle 30–45 mm long; as thick as stem. Tepals 1–1.5 mm long, anthers 1 mm long. Carpels 4, fruits 5 mm long, with prominent beak. Stele of oblong type, endodermis of O-type, interlacunar bundles absent, subepidermal bundles absent. Worldwide distribution: —Subcosmopolitan; Europe, Africa, W Asia (Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Palestine), N, C and E Asia, North and S South America. Australia, introduced to New Zealand. Distribution in Iran: —North, West, Northeast, South. Flowering time: —From spring to summer. Specimen examined:— IRAN.
