Abstract

Alloy anodes are potential anode materials for lithium ion batteries with high specific capacity and high safety. The different lithium (de)intercalation mechanisms of alloy anodes significantly affect the key issues such as dendrite growth, Li transport, and volume expansion. This article sheds lights on the lithium (de)intercalation mechanism of different alloy anodes, the factors of the nucleation process of lithium deposition and the transport process of Li inside the alloy anodes from thermodynamics and kinetics. It also summarizes the recent advances and future development directions of alloy anodes for controlling lithium deposition behavior and volume expansion.
