There has been a long-standing criticism in legal literature about the fact that the system of international criminal justice has never paid enough attention to gender-related crimes, in particular conflict-related sexual violence. This criticism is particularly strong in relation to the International Criminal Court, which, notwithstanding its resources and opportunities, has barely ever touched the subject. The poster will explore the issue of whether the prosecution of sexual violence crimes by the International Criminal Court is effective enough per se and compared to other crimes within the jurisdiction of the Court, and also why such crimes deserve special attention and proper handling by the ICC.
