Abstract

Department of Chemistry, Regional Enginearing College, Rourkela-769 008 Manuscript received 21 August 1979, accepted 30 November 1979 The formation of 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 complexes of rare earth ions (M3+ =La3+, Ce3+, Pr2+, Nd3+, Sm3+, Gd3++, Dy2+, Ho3+, Er3+, Tm2+, Yb2+ and Lu2+) with glycolic acid (HG) have been studied pH metrically. The equilibrium constants for the reactions k k1 M3++HG ⇌ MG2++H+, MG2+⇌ MG++H+ and M3++2HG ⇌ MG2++2H+ and MG2+⇌ MG2+H+ have been determined.
