This work constitutes a critical assessment of Brazilian geopolitical thought during the "developmental phase" (1930-1985). Our objective will be to identify counterpoints and points of convergence between two classic thinkers of national Geopolitics, which are Mário Travassos (1891-1973) and Golbery do Couto e Silva (1911-1987). To this end, the methodology in use will be the "Theory of hegemony" by Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937), which frames the two authors as formulators of a conception of the world useful for the state project then underway. The conclusion that the study reaches is that Golbery complements Travassos' ideas, borrowing his continental perception of South America and improving it with an island vision.
