Dynamic vulcanization process and properties of millable polyurethane rubber/polylaurolactam thermoplastic vulcanizate

Abstract

"Millable polyurethane rubber (MPU)/ poly(dodecalactam) (PA 12) thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) was prepared via dynamic vulcanization method, and the dynamic vulcanization process of MPU/PA 12 TPV was explored by controlling the dynamic vulcanization time, At the same time, physical and mechanical properties, and dynamical mechanical properties of the blends in different dynamic vulcanization stage were studied. The results showed that with the extension of dynamic vulca-nization time, MPU/PA 12 TPV gradually completed the phase transformation process. Under the action of temperature and shear force, MPU phase changed from continuous phase to dispersed phase, while PA 12 phase changed from dispersed phase to conti-nuous phase. Storage modulus of MPU/PA 12 blends increased, loss modulus decreased, and loss factor reduced with the extension of dynamic vulcanization time. In addition, the comprehensive mechanical properties of MPU/PA 12 blends were improved with the extension of dynamic vulcanization time."
