The total synthesis of (−)-englerin A, a potent\nand selective\ninhibitor of renal cancer cell lines, is described. The key feature\nincludes the stereocontrolled construction of the cyclopentane structure\nby taking advantage of a base-promoted epoxynitrile cyclization.
