Abstract

Introduction to film; reminiscences of early career: Hal Roach, Mack Sennett; creation of Lonesome Luke, use of horn-rimmed glasses as trademark; discussion of films, "Grandma's Voice," filming of "Safety Last"; conversion to sound, progress in film, making of his first sound film, silent film theory; "Mad Wednesday," and Preston Sturges. Audio is comprised of the interview and the narrator's excerpts from the Westinghouse Broadcasting Company's radio program series "Memoirs of the Movies"
