Abstract

In this paper, Janus hybrid particles\nwith rubber brushes have\nbeen first fabricated by successively grafting polybutadiene chains\nonto polydivinylbenzene (PDVB) side and polyisoprene chains onto SiO2 side in the case of SiO2@PDVB Janus particles\nas the template. The weight grafting ratios (<i>G</i>r) of polybutadiene (PBd) and polyisoprene (PI) brushes were\ndetermined as 19.4 and 24.8 wt %, respectively. Such Janus hybrid\nparticles contribute to not only the retardation of phase separation but also\nthe kinetically trapped bicontinuous phase morphology in rubber blends.\nThe interface jamming of these Janus particles supports their promising\napplications as compatibilizers in polymer blends.
