The aim of this note is to argue that the Malayalam suffix -ān is to be defined as a pseudo-infinitive marker rather than an exclusive supine marker; specifically, that some of the -ān constructions are close to other non-finite forms, such as relative constructions or participial nouns in their functions. I will also discuss what kinds of parameters are relevant to some of the differences in two types of the -ān constructions which none of the previous analyses has taken into account.
