Abstract

Blending of nitrile rubber with plasticised PVC produces vinyl-based thermoplastic elastomers. These materials offer a versatile range of properties and are used in numerous applications; such as glazing gaskets, footwear, cable jacketing, hose, tubing and coated fabrics. In this paper it is discussed how the properties vary as a function of the PVC / plasticiser / nitrile rubber composition. It is shown how, with appropriate experimental design, it is possible to model the results and produce contour plots to map the properties as a function of the formulation
