Islanding Detection Techniques for Inverter-Interfaced Distributed Generation System

Abstract

Based on local synchro phasor measurements, this paper suggests a novel passive islanding detection method for inverter-based distributed generation (DG) in microgrids. The voltage and current phasors measured at the DG connecting point (point of connection, PoC) are used in the suggested technique. This article uses micro-phasor measurement devices to track the rate of voltage change and the ratio of the voltage and current magnitudes (VoI index) at the PoC. In order to identify any type of utility grid frequency variations or oscillations and differentiate them from islanding conditions, a decentralized islanding detection approach based on local observations was created. This technique is based on the VoI index. For inverter-based DGs, the simulation studies verify that the suggested system is precise, reliable, quick, and easy to install
