Pedagogía ecológica en la Educación Superior: formación universitaria para la sostenibilidad y la ciudadanía ambiental

Abstract

Introduction: Ecological pedagogy in higher education emerges as a necessary response to current environmental challenges, promoting a comprehensive education that articulates scientific knowledge, ethical values, and sustainable practices. This novel approach seeks to train professionals committed to sustainability and environmental citizenship, capable of generating cultural and social transformations in their communities and workplaces. Objective: To explore the implementation of ecological pedagogy in the university curriculum and its impact on the training of conscious and responsible students in the face of environmental and social challenges. Methodology: A qualitative methodology was used based on the review of effective educational practices and documentary analysis of experiences in Latin American universities. Curricular integration strategies, participatory methodologies, and results in students' ecological awareness and social commitment were analyzed. Results: The findings show that the incorporation of ecological pedagogy in higher education fosters a greater sense of environmental and social responsibility in students, who develop the skills to act as agents of change. Educational strategies that combine critical reflection, interdisciplinarity, and active participation are effective in strengthening ecological awareness and promoting sustainability. Conclusions: Ecological pedagogy constitutes a fundamental pillar for university education oriented toward sustainability and environmental citizenship. Its integration into academic programs contributes to transforming educational culture, promoting professionals capable of addressing environmental challenges with an ethical and committed approach. Its strengthening is recommended through institutional policies and contextualized curricular design.
