The Influence of "Kata berbunga" Media on the Reading Ability of Children Aged 5-6 Years

Abstract

Early reading ability is one of the essential literacy skills that need to be developed in children aged 5–6 years. However, many children still struggle to read two-syllable words due to limited and monotonous instructional media. This study aims to determine the effect of the media Kata berbunga on the reading ability of children aged 5-6 years. There are 19 children who haven't been able to read two or more syllables, so the Kata berbunga media was designed to stimulate reading skills. This type of research is quantitative pre-experimental one group pretest and posttest design. The population in this study were 29 children consists of 17 boys and 12 girls of Kindergarten B in Sidoarjo City who were also the research sample because they used a saturated sampling technique. Data collection techniques used tests, observations, and documentation. Based on the results of data analysis using the normality test obtained from the results of the pretest significance test of 0.01 and the posttest of 0.01 is data that is not normally distributed. Then the analysis was continued with hypothesis testing using the Wilcoxon test with a significance of 0.01, meaning that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. The conclusion of the research results shows that the media Kata berbunga has a significant effect on the reading ability of children aged 5-6 years.
