Currently, the number of people diagnosed with diabetes is increasing considerably. Although this condition has no cure, it is a treatable disease. Medical and nutritional interventions, focusing on nutritional status as a preventive measure, and promoting healthy lifestyles focused on achieving control goals, are the treatment that allows us to avoid and delay the consequences of the disease. To evaluate lifestyle in patients with type 2 diabetes at HGZ/MF No. 12. A quantitative, observational, prospective, descriptive study was conducted in 380 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus over 20 years of age at the General Hospital of the Zone with Family Medicine No. 12 who agreed to participate in the study. A lifestyle survey was administered. 98.4% of patients presented an inadequate lifestyle, particularly poor nutrition (72.6%). Only 1.6% maintained an adequate lifestyle. Most patients with an inadequate lifestyle were diagnosed within the last 5 years. The majority were men, pensioners, those with primary education, and those treated with insulin. Prevention of type 2 diabetes in patients at HGZ MF No. 12 depends on lifestyle changes. Promoting healthy habits, self-care, and educational strategies are crucial to reducing risks and improving quality of life.
