Mechanical properties of glass fiber polyester hybrid composite filled with eggshell

Abstract

Recent interest in using natural waste-based materials in engineering and technology has grown due to their outstanding qualities. Eggshells are a promising material. This research uses the hand lay-up method to make a composite material with eggshell weight ratios from 10% to 50% in 10% increments, resulting in 10ES90PR, 20ES80PR, 30ES70PR, 40ES60PR, and 50ES50PR. The specimens were carved using a CNC router and mechanically tested (tensile, flexural, and impact tests) according to ASTM D 3039, 790, and 6110, respectively. The final stage involves the statistical analysis of the results, utilizing ANOVA. Findings reveal that incorporating 40% of 2mm eggshell particles significantly enhances composite properties compared to the other ratios of eggshell-filled glass fibre polyester hybrid composite, with results of tensile strength (13.6845 MPa), elasticity (0.8012 GPa), flexural strength (46.0047 MPa), and impact resistance (1.0866 J). Furthermore, the Analysis of variance (ANOVA) confirmed significant mechanical property differences among the five ESPR composite ratios.
