This research examines gender representations in mathematics education among students at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Xochimilco (UAM-X), evaluating their impact on learning experiences and subject perception. Through a approach with a gender perspective, the study explores emotional, affective, and social factors influencing students’ relationships with mathematics. Using observations, surveys, and interviews, study identifies the effects and symbolic violence on female studentsparticipation, as well as the barriers they face in their academic development. Findings highlight the need to redesign pedagogical strategies to foster a more equitable and inclusive education. It is recommended to implement teaching practices that acknowledge women’s contributions in mathematics and create bias-free spaces that enhance all students’ engagement in the discipline.
