The problem of this research is that the word hanif in QS. al-Baqarah [2]: 135 is the only meaning that focuses on explaining the difference between the glory of the Jews, Christians and Muslims. The word hanif in QS. al-Baqarah [2]: 135 is more linguistically studied. Roland Barthes' semiotics is relevant as the formal object of this research. Because the word hanif in QS. al-Baqarah [2]: 135 contains a sign system that reflects the assumptions of society at a certain time. Roland Barthes' semiotic theory sub-discussion includes denotative and connotative meanings. The word hanif in QS. al-Baqarah [2]: 135 from the perspective of Roland Barthes Semiotics is studied using the library research method. Consists of two novelties in this research. First, the phrase al-sahih al-mayl ila al-islam al-thabit 'alayh as a denotation meaning. Second, purifying oneself from any shirk behaviour by rejecting the ideology of polytheism as connotation meaning. Fanatical acts of power in religious teachings with their truth claims as a mythical analysis. The contribution of the novelty of this research is by implication to the next study which not only parses the conceptual of a problem, but emphasizes the analysis of application ideas with the study of the verses of ibrahim in the Qur'an in order to see the integration of the nature of hanif in Ibrahim As. as his personality
