PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE PADA COAL MILL (PULVERIZER)

Abstract

Steam Power Plants (PLTU) play a strategic role in meeting Indonesia's electricity needs, particularly through the utilization of coal as the primary energy source. This report focuses on the analysis of preventive maintenance applied to the Coal mill (pulverizer) Unit 2 at PLTU Keban Agung, Lahat, aiming to prevent damage and enhance operational efficiency. The MPS-160 HP type mill is used to grind coal into micro-sized particles suitable for combustion.Preventive maintenance procedures include routine tasks such as visual inspections, lubrication, cleaning, and tightening of components. During the process, issues such as hydraulic pipe leaks and other component malfunctions were identified and promptly addressed to prevent further impact. Preventive maintenance has proven effective in minimizing the risk of unplanned downtime, supporting sustainable production, and improving PLTU efficiency. The operational principle of the Coal mill (pulverizer) involves grinding coal between a grinding roller and a grinding table, aided by airflow from the Primary Air Fan to produce coal powder with a 200-mesh size, ready for combustion in the burner. In conclusion, preventive maintenance is essential for maintaining equipment performance, reducing potential damage, and ensuring smooth PLTU operations.
