Abstract

Hailed as the 3D of the internet, the Metaverse medium adoption has been lagging in the industry. This research looks into the different barriers that hinder the adoption of the Metaverse medium by way of social, physical and technological factors, through the lens of TAM (Technology adoption model), and arrives at a modified TAM model. Technology accessibility and Immersive capability have been added in the new TAM model, through this study and have been discussed in detail. Also, demographic prejudice and ethical issues, including digital property and identity issues, contribute to its reluctance to be selected. The study uses a four-step research method including qualitative in-depth group discussions, and the analysis has been done using N Vivo software. Implications for industry as well as academia are outlined.
