Abstract

In 2020, the art collective Mujeres Creando dressed up a monument of Isabel La Católica in the garb of the Bolivian Chola. The essay reads these actions through the Aymara framework of ch’ixi, as explained by scholar Silvia Rivera Cusicanqui. Thinking of this action as a ch’ixi monument provides insights into the nuances and politics of Indigenous identity in the South American Andes.
