Contemporary literacy practices indicate that we face new challenges: reading andwriting in the 21st century is far from what was understood about these activities in pastcenturies. This change also reverts to the competencies that, from the university level, areexpected to be developed by students. In this research a pedagogical experience of promotingacademic literacy is reported, and carried out at the Abat Oliba CEU University duringthe 2017-2018 academic year in the framework of a project of innovation and improvementof teaching quality. It consists of the creation of a student’s journal “Letras de Batalla: debateacadémico actual”: the motivations and objectives of the project, its methodology and implementationphases, are described. Finally, it the relationship between expected results and resultsobtained at the end of the edition of the first issue is detailed, published online and withits own ISSN. Thus, the journal allows us to verify that, through the production of academicarticles, students improve their reading skills and naturally assume these literacy practiceswhile also increasing their abilities to understand and engage with the world around themand master the skills necessary for integration into society.
