Applying acoustical criteria to architectural projects

Abstract

The requirements for building acoustics should be integrated into the architectural project as early as the preliminary design phase.The materials, densities and thicknesses used in the manufacture of building elements vary from country to country. Therefore, in each country there are building products with different sound insulation properties resulting from the different characteristics of the building elements. We are developing a local building element database addin for a BIM programme that the architect can easily insert into the project by classifying the sound insulation properties of the building elements used in Turkey according to their thickness, density and layer properties, which are determined by calculation or measurement. In the future, we plan to integrate additional properties of the building elements, such as fire resistance, sustainability and cost information, which will facilitate the design of the building.
