Educación nutricional para el fortalecimiento de la calidad de vida en adultos mayores

Abstract

The adoption of healthy habits regarding food can be considered a necessity at any stage of life. However, this conviction is more significant when it comes to boosting the quality of life in older adults who require more attention regarding the form and content of their diet. In this sense, it is clear that, when related to health, quality of life acquires a comprehensive perspective where individual well-being is related, both to personal care when eating or acquiring healthy lifestyle practices, as with the establishment of relationships in the environment in which individuals operate. From this perspective, this article aimed to interpret the relevance of educational strategies to promote nutritional habits that favor the quality of life of older adults in an Ecuadorian town. From the point of view of methodology, an approach was carried out from the mixed approach, which involved, at first, a hermeneutics of the theories and approaches that relate nutritional education to quality of life. Subsequently, the results of a questionnaire on nutritional education are analyzed, aimed at a sample of older adults who live in the context under study, to assess their knowledge regarding nutritional education in relation to their quality of life. Finally, it can be confirmed that older adults' nutritional education level guides them in adopting eating habits that can improve their quality of life.
