Hyperbranched polymers have the special structure caused by different types of synthetic procedures such as single monomer methodology and double monomer methodology. Under the process of single monomer methodology, polycondensation, self-condensation, and ring-opening polymerization will be introduced in this paper, from the traditional to recent methods. From different synthetic methodologies, hyperbranched polymers have specialized properties to fulfill applications in various fields. They can be used in oil recovery for petroleum engineering and drug delivery for biomedicine field. As the synthesis methods become more developed, the properties of hyperbranched polymers can match the application requirements in more refined way, which gives the prospect of enhancing the efficiency and accuracy use in different engineering fields. It is meaningful to keep the research on hyperbranched polymers to let them have more usage in many fields of engineering, which can benefit human beings’ life from many aspects that causes influence of people’s daily life.
