Diabetic wound infection has always been a huge threat to human's healthcare, and most of the existing therapies have reduced efficacy, drug resistance and toxic side effects. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop innovative therapeutic strategies for diabetic wound management. At present, the intelligence of stimulus-responsive bioactive hydrogels in diabetic wound healing has received extensive attention. This intelligence is mainly reflected in the on-demand release of active substances in response to physical, chemical or biological stimuli. This paper focuses on the potential of various stimulus-responsive bioactive hydrogels and their biological applications in diabetic wound healing, and briefly discusses the factors of slow diabetic wound healing and the preparation methods of smart bioactive hydrogels. Finally, the future development of stimulus-responsive bioactive hydrogels in the further management of diabetic wounds is presented.
