Abstract

This book shows the country's diversity—its people, history,heritage, and territory, based on ajourney through the eight cultural regions of Colombia. Thus, those who decideto travel throughthese pages will find a brief historical analysis from pre-Hispanic times tothe present; entertainthemselves with stories of festivities, commemorations, and customs that havecontributed to ouridentity; take a trip through the territory—its organization and disputes—andmeet the people andcommunities with whom we share this space we call Colombia. This book it alsooffers a graphicinvestigation to appreciate the rivers, mountains, seas, centers of religiousworship, urban spaces,and expressions of daily life that define the current contours of the country.Each chapter waswritten by experts who carry out research at universities and regional studycenters, aiming to reachout to readers of different ages, origins, interests, and fields of work orstudy. We hope that this workwill become a legacy for new generations who will build the future of thiscountry.
