Abstract

Abstract This chapter explains the history of internet radio in detail: from its concept and operations to the founders of the first internet stations, to how the reader can start and run an internet radio station. It also details how the internet station makes money and how to get music played on internet radio stations. This chapter talks about the various types of radio formats and how to approach getting radio airplay. This reading also includes tips on how to prepare a song in terms of formatting, appropriate length, media kits, press and media materials, and understanding metadata for submissions for consideration to radio stations. The author explains the role of a radio promoter, their fees, and how to find a good one, as well as ways to work with a minimal promotion budget.
