Optimal Placement of Distributed Energy Resources in Passive Distribution Network

Abstract

Energy demand is increasing drastically in all sectors around the globe. Many under developed countries are facing deficit of demand & supply, load shedding and power blackouts. Injection of Distributed Energy Resources in existing Distribution Network can support to meet the power challenges on one hand and impact of their integration can also influence the performance of weak, outdated and unbalanced distribution network. Optimal placement of DER can help to curb the deficit of power demand. Conventional Distribution Network is transiting from unidirectional power flow to bidirectional power flow. Introduction of Radial loop distribution network and automation of distribution system can help DISCOs to improve the reliability parameters like SAIFI and SAIDI index. A load flow analysis of radial distribution network is carried out using MATLAB Simulink. Integration of DER and radial loop distribution network is also analyzed. Optimum design and placement of DER can help to reduce burden on grid, improve the power quality, voltage profile and reduction in technical losses. This research work can help DISCOs for their up gradation as well expansion plans.
