However, results are still subject to inaccuracies of the initial model and the possibly suboptimal acquisition geometry, especially in salt basin and salt tectonic contexts. Even if the data collection design is suitable, in having long offsets and low frequencies, the salt interface can distort the results if the acoustic wave equation is employed. Increased physics in FWI allows us to interrogate the power of elastic FWI versus acoustic FWI, and here we demonstrate that elastic FWI has an advantage over acoustic, despite the association of extra computational cost. We take this advantage a step further to pursue a shear velocity update in addition to the pressure velocity field. Keywords: elastic, full-waveform inversion, velocity modelingPermalink: https://doi.org/10.1190/image2023-3909865.1FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Third International Meeting for Applied Geoscience & Energy Expanded AbstractsISSN (print):1052-3812 ISSN (online):1949-4645Copyright: 2023 Pages: 1812 publication data© 2023 Published in electronic format with permission by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the American Association of Petroleum GeologistsPublisher:Society of Exploration Geophysicists HistoryPublished Online: 14 Dec 2023 CITATION INFORMATION Denes Vigh, Xin Cheng, Bing Bai, Zongcai Feng, and Kate Glaccum, (2023), "Elastic multiparameter full-waveform inversion application on sparse ocean-bottom node data," SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts : 595-599. https://doi.org/10.1190/image2023-3909865.1 Plain-Language Summary Keywordselasticfull-waveform inversionvelocity modelingPDF DownloadLoading ...
