Optimal Operation Strategy of PV-ESS System Considering Energy Storage Participating in Frequency Regulation

Abstract

The amount of abandoned solar can be effectively reduced by the joint operation of energy storage system (ESS) and photovoltaic system (PV). Also, the grid security can be improved by the combined system, which participates in frequency regulation. Firstly, an operation optimization strategy is proposed for PV-ESS to participate in solar abandonment reduction and frequency regulation. Then, to maximize the PV-ESS system's total revenue, the operation optimization model of the PV-ESS system is constructed by considering the energy storage for reducing solar abandonment and frequency regulation, considering the constraints related to the PV system and energy storage. Finally, simulation results show that the energy storage utilization rate and the PV-ESS system's benefits can be improved effectively by the proposed method.
