BOOK-CHAPTER

Conducting Polymer Nanocomposites for Electrochemical Supercapacitor

Abstract

A growing research interest has been observed in the application of high-performance supercapacitors in energy storage systems. This requires a lot of research to develop supercapacitor electrode materials. Electrode materials play a decisive role in the performance of these supercapacitors. A wide range of different kinds of materials has been investigated till now as supercapacitor electrode materials. Among them, conducting polymers (CPs) and their nanocomposites exhibit high potential to be supercapacitor electrode materials due to their unique properties such as high conductivity, flexibility, cost-effectiveness, facile synthesis methods, etc. This chapter summarizes some of the recent research progress of binary and ternary nanocomposite electrode materials based on CP [polyaniline (PANI), polypyrrole (PPy), and polythiophene (PTh)] for supercapacitors.
