IMPACTOS DO CIGARRO ELETRÔNICO NA SAÚDE BUCAL: UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA DA LITERATURA

Abstract

Studies have indicated that periodontal therapy can have a beneficial effect on glycemic control, especially in patients with high levels of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c).To evaluate the effect of non-surgical periodontal therapy on serum EFEITO DA TERAPIA PERIODONTAL SOBRE NÍVEIS DE GLICEMIA E PERFIL LIPÍDICO EM PACIENTES COM PERIODONTITE CONTRIBUIÇÕES CIENTÍFICAS EM ODONTOLOGIA: PESQUISAS, PRÁTICAS E NOVOS PARADIGMAS -VOLUME IIIlevels of triglycerides, total cholesterol and glucose in patients diagnosed with chronic periodontitis.An experimental study was conducted with 63 participants without systemic diseases: 33 subjects with chronic periodontitis and 30 subjects without chronic periodontitis.The non-surgical periodontal therapy evaluated was scaling and root planing (RAR).The variables were collected at two times: before the beginning of the intervention (baseline) and before 90 days after the intervention.Periodontal examination was performed to assess the probing depth (PS), and clinical attachment level (NIC), gingival bleeding index (ISG) and visible plaque index (IPV).Blood samples were collected for measurement of serum levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides and glucose at both times of the study.There was an increase in the mean level of serum glucose in the group with periodontitis after periodontal intervention, but all patients had values within the normal range.Weak correlations were observed between deltas Δ (initial value -final value) of the gingival bleeding index with glycemia, BP and triglycerides.The findings suggest that in systemically healthy patients with chronic periodontitis, non-surgical periodontal treatment had no influence on the reduction of serum glucose levels and lipid profile.
