Abstract

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are a family of two-dimensional (2D) layered materials with controllable supramolecular structure and unique physicochemical properties, making them highly attractive in the fields of energy storage and conversion. Considering the intense interest in LDHs family, this review aims to provide a comprehensive summary of their development history, synthesis strategies, and energy-related applications. Special attention is given to the distinctive properties of LDHs, such as their oriented assembly and topological transformation, which can serve as systematic guidance for the preparation of LDHs-based materials with unique nanostructures. Furthermore, the review outlines both the classical and cutting-edge applications of LDHs in energy storage and electrocatalysis. Of particular interest, the emerging coupling system based on electrocatalytic water splitting is thoroughly analyzed. Finally, the prospects and potential challenges of LDHs are discussed, aiming to raise the awareness of LDHs among researchers and stimulate further progress in material development.
