Magnetic properties of Co-Zr-Si-B melt-spun ribbons

Abstract

Co-Zr-Si-B alloys were produced by the melt-spinning technique and subsequent annealing. It was found that the small addition of Si to the Co-Zr-B alloys resulted in an increase in coercivity. The Co-Zr-Si-B alloy with a Si content of 2 at% showed a high coercivity of 5.8 kOe. XRD studies showed that the annealed Co-Zr-Si-B alloy consisted of the Co 5 Zr phase. Thus, the high coercivity of the Co-Zr-Si-B alloys is believed to be attributable to the existence of the Co 5 Zr phase.
