A Contactless Inductive Position Sensor With Four-Phase Rotor for Angular Displacement Detection

Abstract

A new type of contactless inductive position sensor using the eddy current effect with four-phase rotor and high static accuracy applied to new energy vehicle was designed. The structure of magnetic field of the sensor was composed of a stator, a four-phase rotor, a group of excitation coils, and two sets of sinusoidal receiving coils. The working principle of how to use the eddy current effect to obtain the inductive voltage signals in receiving coil was stated. The transient magnetic analysis with and without the effect of eddy current were simulated by 3-D finite element method (FEM), which will be used to calculate the angle error to indicate the static accuracy. A prototype of the inductive position sensor was manufactured. And an experimental platform was built to experimentally verify the simulated results.
