Use of Activated Carbon-based White Wood for Adsorption of Dyes in Aqueous Solutions

Abstract

This chapter aimed to assess the use of Activated Carbon-based White Wood for Adsorption of Dyes in Aqueous They are mostly derived from two sources namely, coal tar and petroleum-based intermediates Solutions. Dyes used by the fabric industry are mostly synthetic. These dyes are marketed as powders, granules, pastes or liquid dispersions. Among the dyes, reactive orange and disperse blue have well-known toxicities and dispersal capabilities in the various environmental compartments. Maximum allowable concentrations of these colours in both drinking water and industrial emissions are regulated by a number of laws. Numerous depollution procedures have been developed recently in order to meet these diverse standards. Because activated carbon-based wood adsorption has the key advantages of being more efficient and simple to apply, that is the method we have chosen to adopt. Furthermore, the use of less expensive non-conventional adsorbents guarantees its economic feasibility. However, a number of factors relating to the carbon atom, the solution, and the active suspension influence its removal. The adsorption results for disperse Blue and reactive orange with activated charcoal showed adsorption capacity up to 4.8 mg / g and 12.4 mg / g. Based on the mass of adsorbate, the removal of dyes by activated carbon demonstrates the significance of the adsorption process. The two investigated dyes have a preference for optimised activated charcoal, the adsorption capacity is important for reactive orange than disperse blue.
