Abstract This chapter addresses topics related to queer and trans qualitative research in music therapy. We share our own research lineages along with a beginning definition of queer and trans research. This is followed by a discussion of why queer and trans research is needed and our location as researchers. A connection to post-qualitative research is explored. Traditional concepts such as ontology, epistemology, and methodology are discussed from a queer and trans perspective. Specifically, ontology is examined and how it differs between people. Epistemology askes what counts as knowledge, and methodology asks if we have to summarize what we understand. Action includes understanding ourselves in a social context, and the social constructs that define power and how research can create transformation for queer and trans people.
