Abstract

This chapter summarizes the basic structure, preparation methods, and different growth and orientation mechanisms of layered double hydroxides (LDHs). It is also found that LDHs prepared by hydrothermal treatment of Mg alloy surface have different effects in the field of corrosion protection, showing different corrosion protection mechanisms. In addition, LDHs can also be used as a nanocontainer to carry corrosion inhibitors or combined with other functional species, showing great potential in the preparation of multi-functional LDH smart materials. Finally, the limitations of current research in the field of corrosion protection and the future research direction are explained.
