Francisco Barranco y Jusepe Martínez, dos discípulos del pintor conquense Cristóbal García Salmerón

Abstract

Cristóbal García Salmerón was the foremost painter in his native Cuenca for much of the 17th century, and is considered by the few but prominent authors who mention him in their studies to be a notable artist seeing the works created by him that have survived. Therefore, it is not difficult to imagine that many of his disciples came to his studio to learn the craft of painting with the master. Thus, after consulting all the existing documents in the Provincial Historical Archive of Cuenca, the apprenticeship letters of Francisco Barranco and Jusepe Martínez have been found, becoming the first one a genius of still life painting, while Martínez has been relegated to absolute oblivion
