Stereolithography Additive Manufacturing of Ceramic Dental Crowns

Abstract

Additive manufacturing methods can offer greater geometric freedom than traditional or conventional manufacturing methods. As such, additive manufacturing has become increasingly popular for the fabrication of customized patient-specific medical devices and implants. Ceramic materials are desirable for dental applications due to their aesthetic appearance, resistance to chipping, cracking, and discoloration, and the low risk of allergic reaction compared to metal dental crowns. In this chapter stereolithography additive manufacturing of alumina and zirconia dental crowns is described, and the potential for fabricating alumina-glass composite dental crowns is explored.
