With the evolution of 5G networks and inclusion of mega constellations for enhancing broadband connectivity, there is a greater need to assess system performance under varying deployment scenarios. Depending on the user equipment type, channel propagation characteristics, scheduling strategies and traffic load, the performance of a 5G-NR based system can experience spatio-temporal variations. The complexity is further increased with inclusion of bent-pipe or regenerative satellite payloads with different beam configurations. The performance of such a network can be estimated via system-level simulations with appropriate abstractions. The work here presents 5G-NR based system-level simulations of non-terrestrial-networks that was developed in OMNET++ using INET and Simu5G frameworks. The results focus on evaluations of system throughput for specific deployment scenarios.
