Pandemics and health equity issues: effects of disparities and social health determinants

Abstract

This paper addresses the effects of disparities and social health determinants on pandemics and health equity issues. It is palpable knowledge that underdevelopment, inequity and societal factors of health, and health disparities or inequalities give rise to the transmission of infectious diseases or pandemics as well as contribute to imbalanced morbidity and death in world populations. Global emphasis on the elimination of health inequity and inequalities is 'health for all' as canvassed by the Alma Ata Declaration. It has been canvassed that 'health for all' can only be attained in the course of a new global fiscal order and people's involvement in assessments bothering their community's health. These ideologies contained in the WHO's Commission on the Social Determinants of Health Report and The World Health Report (2008). The authors recommend nations to address their social determinants of health by identifying health disparities and the needs of people who suffer from such disparities.
