In order to monitor the vibration signal of the Long Span Bridges in both directions, and to address the phenomenon that the fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is sensitive to both strain and temperature, a two-directional FBG accelerometer based on novel biaxial arc hinge was designed and studied. Based on this design of the sensor, dynamics equations analysis, finite element calculation as well as sensor characteristic experiments were carried out respectively. Result comparison and error analysis are also presented concurrently. Experimental results show that the resonant frequency of the FBG accelerometer is about 500 Hz and the sensitivity is 595.17 pm/g. In addition, this structural design has outstanding lateral anti-interference and self-temperature compensating performance.
