Distributed Energy Resource Management System with Distribution Grid Stabilization

Abstract

Penetration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) burdens the distribution grids, such as EV charging causes overloading in urban, and PV generation causes overvoltage in suburban, traditional way of curtailment decreases the economy. To overcome these issues, Distributed Energy Resource Management System with Distribution Grid Stabilization (DERMS-DGS) was proposed. It contains Distribution Grid Operator and Micro Grid Operators, the optimal operation is calculated by Generalized Benders Decomposition and AC Optimal Power Flow. Typical seasonal distribution grid models for China in 2030 were formulated according to real data, trend and standard. DERMS-DGS was tested on these models, and KPIs considering economy, environment, and impact to load side, were calculated. Result showed that DERMS-DGS resolved overloading or overvoltage, improved 86.9% economy in urban and 47.4% in suburban, and significantly reduced curtailment of PV generation or EV charging, compared with baseline solution: local curtailment.
