Identifier Update Method for Sidelink Communication

Abstract

The Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is working on the improvement of Vehicle-to- Everything (V2X) and relay services based on 5G New Radio (NR) in a Release 17. In these services, a User Equipment (UE) performs communication through a sidelink channel based on a pe5 interface, which is a direct communication reference point between UEs. The UE identifier is a very important element for identifying each sidelink communication connection and the both end UEs. Therefore, if the UE identifier is not properly managed, communication will suffer serious problems. In this paper, we discuss the considerations for the conventional link update procedure and propose a new method to improve it.
