In Ecuador, small and medium-sized companies are fundamental to its economic system. The research objective is to describe, within the context of Ecuadorian international trade policies, its productive and export profile. Thus, in this descriptive and documentary research, information from the SME Policy Index of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Andean Development Corporation (2019) was used. Among the main results, it was observed that the country has a good policy aimed at small and medium-sized companies, but somewhat lags behind the rest of the main countries in the region. It is concluded that efforts must be made to create better productive financing mechanisms, support in productive improvements for the production of a greater number of tradable goods, given that production is mainly primary, develop productive transformation without neglecting quality and adopt a more aggressive policy of participation in commercial integration agreements in Latin America, as well as signing free trade agreements beyond traditional markets
