A novel generalized non-contact vital-sign system configuration is proposed based on the MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar sensors. The proposed generalized radar system configuration can track the location of individuals and extract their respiration and heart rates with the multiple signal classification algorithm (MUSIC). In the phase tracking process, with the proposed joint double phase unwrap and linear fitting process, the tiny vital sign information can be extracted from the random motion interference. In this work, two TX antennas transmit signals simultaneously in binary phase modulation model and the digital beamforming process is performed to steer the main beam of the antenna to the desired direction. The proposed generalized radar configuration has been verified experimentally to demonstrate the versatility of the system for life tracking and monitoring.
