The compound bispropargyl ether of bisphenol-A (BPEBPA) is prepared using a phase-transfer catalyst. The synthesized BPEBPA is separately blended with different bismaleimides (BMIs) [4,4'-bismaleimidodiphenyl methane (BMIM) and 4,4'-bismaleimidodiphenyl ether (BMIE)] in the mole ratio 0.5:0.5. Curing behaviour of bispropargyl ether, BMIs and bispropargyl ether-BMI blends are studied using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and the polymers from these materials are studied using a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). Bispropargyl ether-BMI blends show considerable differences in the thermal curing behaviour as evidenced by the DSC studies. Among the materials investigated, the BMIM blended bispropargyl ether show higher-end set degradation temperature. From this, one can conclude that the polymerization of bispropargyl ether-BMI blends leads to structurally different network structures.
