Objective: to carry out an integrative review of the literature on risk factors associated with falls among elderly people living in the community. Methods: integrative review where the descriptors were used: elderly, risk factors, accidents due to falls and aging and MeSH terms, in the Scielo, Pubmed and VHL bases, with a temporary cut of 5 years (2016-2021). After the research, 17 references were selected that were related to the object of study. Results: The most frequent risk factors were: female sex, environmental factors, self-perception of regular or poor health, medication, polypharmacy, chronic diseases, depression, impaired vision, low education and income, incontinence, fear of falling and frailty, reduced gait and balance. Conclusion: it was identified that the more comorbidities and environmental risks, the more the elderly may be prone to falls. Thus, it is up to the nurse to intervene to minimize the risks and implement fall prevention strategies. Descriptors: Elderly; Risk factors; Falls accident; Aging.
